Majestic Ending SPOILER

The fall from the Statue was amazing. I'm sure it wowed audiences many years ago in the theatre.

Does anyone know if the pulling back of the camera to give the impressing of a person falling had been done prior to this film?

Also, Mr. George Lucas used the same technique in Return of the Jedi for the forest scene with the speed bikes.

I don't know if this technique has been used before but all I want to do is to express my admiration for this unbelievable final fight. It's far better and more exciting than all the stuff done over half a century later in Matrix and Spiderman. Whereas the cheap and artificial highwaychase in Matrix 2 looks like watching someone playing Need for Speed this fight really IS amazing! It bears a resemblance to the hand-to-hand combat on top of the Golden Gate Bridge in 1985's James-Bond-movie A View To A Kill. Must also watch the Mount-Rushmore chase in North By Northwest again.

Return of the Jedi wasn't directed by George Lucas. The director was Richard Marquand.

Nice correction on Return of the Jedi! I just saw Saboteur for the first time (on the big screen[!]); the final scene on the Statue of Liberty is stunning. Those overhead shots of Lady Liberty with the action and the Hudson sparkling below are better than any digital effect.

The final scene was a good one, but Fry falling in slo-mo and waving his legs around like an idiot, ruined it.

Don't know if it was used prior. But it was very emotional and impressing ending.

reply

I liked Fry falling but the ending did seem very abrupt to me.
