Well, either Barbara or Ginger could have played the role, all three interchangeable w/o loss of substance. Yet, the lovely Priscilla was the correct casting for the part, tho' the movie has a lot of holes and scenes that didn't make sense from a previous scene. However, the dance between Bob and Priscilla at the house, subsequent kissing moments on two separate occasions while dancing interspersed with expressions of love was extremely well done. Aaahhh....Priscilla......such a lovely lass, same for Barbara and Ginger.
Lastly, I hated the abrupt ending at the Liberty. A full embrace between Priscilla and Bob was a better fit, standing on high with a slight breeze as the camera pans out for the conclusion.
Yeah you don't really think of Priscilla as a Hitchcock dame, but the part was well tailored to her puppy dog flair. I can't see Barbara in the part, though, she would've left Cummings in the dust. Ginger would've been fine.
But they certainly had Priscilla looking good. My favorite Hitchcock plot moment (slight spoiler ahead) is after the bad guys find them at the shack in the desert, she escapes cross country, goes to the police who turn out to be bad guys and take her to the rich woman's house in New York to be interrogated. Somewhere in there, though, she spent hours in a beauty salon, because after a night on the lam in the desert she has a new, beautifully styled hairdo with curls!
Cummings got a pretty good suit out of the bad guys as well, size 42. Good thing fifth columnists have such fashion sense, it brightens up the movies.

I'd say she looked like Ginger Rogers, and had a little bit of Betty Grable, as well. The lips, perhaps.

Most Hitchcock aficionados know Hitch preferred a blonde as his leading lady. It was love at first sight with the onscreen Priscilla Lane for this viewer although she is not in the same league as Ingrid Bergman ("Spellbound", "Notorious", "Under Capricorn") or Grace Kelly ("Dial M For Murder", "Rear Window", "To Catch a Thief") but then who is.
Miss Lane tops a myriad of Hitch's other blondes such as Joan Fontaine, Kim Novak (a bleach blonde), Eva Marie Saint, Janet Leigh, and Tippi Hedren. The thing about Priscilla is that her full lips look red even in "Saboteur".
