This movie was hilarious

I know everyone could be caught up in the pedophile thing but if you really just enjoy the movie for what it was-a ridiculous comedy, it was pretty funny (I was rolling with laughter). Of course its silly to think she is a child (thats the whole point) especially when Ginger talks smack to people who question her age. Ginger Rogers has several great comedic films and this was one of her really hilarious roles. I love the old B&W comedies because they are so clever with the dialogue. I loved it even if it was before my time.

This happens to be one of my favorite movies!!! Rogers and Milland had great chemistry on screen together. It's a great romantic comedy and my twin sister and I totally love it.

I haven't enjoyed a movie this much in a long time!

I second all of the above. Laughed so hard. It's a rare thing to enjoy a movie to that extent nowadays.

If you don't take the situation too literally and go along with it, this is a bright, funny and very well made film, done as innocently as such a premise can be. The cast was expert and I can't remember Ray Milland ever giving such a light, fun performance.

This movie is a gem and showcases the talents of the cast. Ginger shines in this one and I loved Diana Lynn as the real minor.

Yup, this is the first and only straight comedy by Wilder that I really liked a lot. Far as I'm concerned his other ones range from mildly amusing (Some Like It Hot) to totally terrible (The Seven Year Itch, One Two Three).

I just saw this for the first time, after having seen most of Wilder's movies, and I have to agree with you. This is as funny and witty as any of his better-known comedies (although his dramas are superior.) Even the obligatory wartime propaganda at the end was well handled.

Watching it now. Rogers as a 12 year old child, and her speaking voice reminds me of Judy Garland in the Wizard of OZ. Her hair even looks similar.

She had such a great child mannerism, f.e. in the taping scene in the phone central: that awkward body language of a pre-pubescent. Great actress!

Every now and again TCM airs a well regarded movie that I've never heard of like The Major and the Minor. Not a particularly appealing title but Billy Wilder and Ray Milland have each produced some great movies. This movie could have really fallen flat and predictable but for the clever writing and the performances of Ginger Rogers and Ray Milland who are so cheerfully energetic and beguiling that it was easy to take a rooting interest in the drama. From the dialogue it is pretty clear that the movie was completed in 1941 (pre-Pearl Harbor) which makes the ending particularly poignant. This is the best (new to me) movie I've watched in a long time.
