I Love This Movie

I saw this movie on late night television when I was in my teens and absolutely loved it.

Ever since then, I've watched it every time it was on TV and had subsequently recorded it off of TV onto VHS.

I'm really surprised this movie isn't praised more than it is. It's a beautiful gem of a comedy with a rare comic turn from Edward G. Robinson. The supporting cast is great and the dialogue is peppy and clever. I can't say enough good things about this movie.

Along with His Girl Friday, The Apartment and Some Like It Hot, it's on my list of favorite Black & White comedies.

Now I have to pick it up on DVD.

It's amazing how versatile of an actor Robinson was. It didn't matter what genre. He was always great.

If you like films like the ones you mentioned, then you should check out ' You Can't Take It With You ', ' The Man Who Came To Dinner ', ' My Man Godfrey ', ' Mr. Deeds Goes To Town ' and ' It Happened One Night ', although I imagine that you probably have already seen some of these.

Scarlet Street is also worth checking out just to see Edward G as a hen pecked husband.

Thanks for the suggestion. I definitely want to check that out since his non-gangster roles fascinate me.

I saw this on TCM recently and loved it. I also thought it was a good showcase for Robinson's ability to play a comedic role, and softer and kinder individual.
