Jesse White in this movie?

I have a running argument with my Dad that the guy who plays the merchandiser (trying to get pastor Pyle to buy ladies bloomers to sell in his store) is Jesse White. He's not listed in the credits that I can find anywhere. But it sure looks and sounds like Jesse White to me.

I thought so, too, but it's Howard Da Silva as Lem, who's voice might remind you of Jesse.

The guy selling the underwear isn't Jesse White for the following reasons:

- Jesse's film career didn't start until 1947. Sergeant York was made in 1941.
- Jesse was born in 1917, and would've only been 24 in 1941.
- The salesman appears to be a much older man, heavier, and to my mind, shorter than Jesse.

Looks like father knows best, Bruce.

Frank Orth, who co-stared in the Boston Blackie TV series.

It's Frank Orth, he's listed in the extended credits as "Drummer". He's in the quotes asking people got to the isolation of Pall Mall.

I used to get Jesse White mixed up with George Tobias because they often played similar-type roles, especially during the later careers of both men. Although it wouldn't be that hard to distinguish their voices--White's was much more abrasive and curmudgeonly than Tobias' was. But is it possible the OP has made the same mistake as I once did?

Oy.
I always get Jesse White mixed up with Howard DaSilva, the black-listed actor who was in "Unconquered" with Coop.

The previous poster is correct. The drummer is played by Frank Orth who neither resembles nor sounds like Jesse White to me. I always enjoyed seeing Jesse White in the movies, but I think he's remembered more as the Maytag repairman.
