York's Farming Techniques

I watched the great Sergeant York during the Memorial Day Marathon on TCM. Did anyone notice that the farming scenes throughout were of York plowing his field? Didn't he actually plant and grow crops? No wonder Alvin was in such dire financial straits!

Not just that he is shown ploughing several times, but that he does it all the way from August to September (as the calendar shows). Man that top land soil certainly was harsh. I wonder when the crops were supposed to grow?

Actually, he was even shown ploughing right before the scene with Grace and Zeb where he theorizes how many bushels he's going to harvest per acre, which is pretty odd. Perhaps he was planning to harvest bushels of top land soil that he had been cultivating for so long.

Plow, plow, plow is right. And didn't the pastor tell him that his father plowed the same land just as he did, when he was young? So, the land has been plowed yearly for at least a few decades and still has big rocks and poor soil.
