The damn background music

really was too loud. And was overused.
Much of the story is in soft voices which are difficult enough too understand, there there is this tra lala ooee ooo playing several decibels louder than the voices. There's a reason it's called background music, it's unobtrusive.
I'm not talking about the singing which was part of the story.
Maybe it was my copy of DVD, or when it was restored for DVD someone thought it should be a musical.

Could be your DVD because I have it on DVD, and it's just fine. You can hear every word of dialogue clearly.

I turned on the subtitles so I didn't have to keep adjusting the volume as the speaking voices rose and fell from scene to scene.

I had the same problem Radish. I had to adjust the volume several times while watching and still I wondered if my ears was going bad.
Granted, I have a cheap DVD player and the disk was from the library. But still these factors don't hinder other movies or shows.
I think whoever remastered the DVDs just did something wrong with the sound balancing.
