Maybe not Citizen Kane, but a great film
Orson Welles greatly admired John Ford and having just seen this film on TCM for the first time I can understand why. Ford reaches deep into the human soul. He taps into a universal human experience. And he translates that into a cinematic expression that speaks to all of us over all time. This film may seem dated to some people but it actually is timeless. He is such a master of the medium...the acting, cinematography, sets, music, editing... He captures the human condition and makes it sing across time using the motion picture art form.
