This movie is crying out to be remade

For one thing they could put in all the stuff from the book that the Hayes office or fear of it wouldn't let them leave in.

reply

Yeah. Screaming.

And the public, who demands *beep* like, "Talledega Nights," is clamouring, flooding producers offices with mail demanding a remake.

Wow.

reply

Preach.

reply

No it isn't.

reply

if it is to be remade it should be done as a series, like on HBO and they should film all the "Valley" books, i believe there are about 4 of them

It is not our abilities that make us who we are...it is our choices

reply

Yes, its episodic nature would lend well to a series approach.

Anyone who even tries to remake this film should be forced to watch every remake of any TV series in the last 10 years!

reply

Please, no! This movie is a beloved classic and the actors are perfect. Not to mention the director. There are some movies that people should never think about remaking and this is one of them. How many pitiful remakes does Hollywood have to churn out before it becomes clear that you can't recapture the magic of the original. I can just picture a remake of HGWMV: in color, lots of CGI, with tween heartthrobs in the roles of the Morgan sons. No thanks.

reply

They could actually use Welsh actors! Or people who sound Welsh.

There was a tv version in the 1970s.

reply

Noble as your intentions may be, but imho, this is one movie where it's best to leave well enough alone. A classic like this needs no remake, and to even attempt to do one is for me tantamount to sacrilege.

Why would one attempt a remake, then compare it with the original, then complain that the new version doesn't hold a candle to it?

Would you like a remake, of say, "Gone with the Wind" or "Casablanca"?

reply

GWTW I don't care about. The original wasn't much to write home about in my humble opinion. 'Casablanca', on the other hand....

reply

It already has been - it was a Masterpiece Special on PBS back in the sixties.

reply

Quit remaking classics and let this masterful story stand. If people want to see it, RENT the film.

Just like they are currently in the process of raping "True Grit" for the modern times. What's the point?

reply

No, it is NOT!
