Wholesome just doesn't sell today.

Watching this movie, made almost 30 years before I was born, I realize that the movie (let alone the novel) would probably not be picked up by any studio today. This is perhaps the most WHOLESOME movie that I have ever seen.

Wholesome shows/movies...'The Waltons, 'Swiss Family Robinson' were the last of their kind and died out in the 70's (OK Disney is an exception, but that is for kids). This type of movie just isn't made anymore.

Dis-functional families, show about serial killers etc..etc, seem to be what my generation and gen y wants to watch. I guess wholesome is just to boring.

This is a sad comment about my generation, because as art imitates life and if dis-function becomes the norm, human behavior changes for the worse.

I don't think that's necessarily so. It can be hard to make something that appeals to very small children as well as older members of the family and cartoons can fill that void. But for kids that are a bit more mature, what about films like The Rookie or Soul Surfer? We took my 8 year old niece to see "Sense and Sensibility" and she loved it!

Probably doesn't have enough digital effects.
