I get the part about her being an idealised image of innocence and decency for Earle, but the speed with which he falls for and wants to marry her is beyond the bounds of credibility. Especially when he's just out of jail after 8 years and Marie is on his doorstep (and kitchen floor) practically begging for it.

Yeah, the speed was too fast although it didn't really bother me. I liked the idea of a sub-plot whereby "Mad Dog" fell in love with a 15-16 year old girl. Her character age was 20 though.
