THE "FLYNN MUST HAVE BEEN A NAZI" THEORIST OBVIOUSLY WAS NEVER IN THE NAVY AND DIDN'T BOTHER READING WHERE THE FILMING TOOK PLACE. ANYONE WHO EVER SERVED THERE CAN SEE THAT MOST OF THE AERIAL SHOTS WERE DONE AT BEAUTFUL OLD NAS NORTH ISLAND, CALIFORNIA.
I agree with you! There is no way that story about Flynn is true. Anyway the Navy controlled what was photographed during the entire production. So I doubt that they let Flynn just roam about taking pictures of whatever he pleased. People just like to talk smack because they have nothing better to do.
Hello, Kimpunkrock and others who have so much information about this film as it will help me fill in some missing information about my Father who was in this film, at the Navy's request, in a small, quick scene of the Navy band aboard a ship going quickly by on screen... I remember this as I was very young and first saw it on an old black and white TV screen on the late night movie with my Dad. Forgot about it for years...then with the beauty of the computer age...and google, decided to try and find this movie again and this site appears!...I'm going to get the movie and sit with my Grandsons and watch their Great GrandDad in his film debut (and only film appearance for that matter). You are right Kimpunkrock...This isn't Pensacola as my Dad was never stationed there...He was in San Diego (exact field I'm not sure), Pearl Harbor and Jacksonville Naval Air...He was in Pearl Harbor (or should I say on the other side of the island as he played an Officer's dance the night before the bombing) as a musician before the the bombing and afterwards made Chief and a Gunner...Then off to Midway... This movie shows him and the nation before that fateful day and I'd like a friend of mine to edit it and get a still for me for my Grandson's legacy...So they know the kind of America and Americans who were part of The Greatest Generation...Oh my Dad's name was Orann Raymond Saylor (yes that's right Saylor) and his was a trombone player...Anybody have any information on him, please contact me and help me fill in some more history... Now I can't wait to get this film and see my Dad again.. Thanks in advance Gadget (still use my Dad's nickname for me)
