Reference to impending WW 2
Evidently writers Frank Wead and others sensed that the U.S. would soon be drawn into World War Two, because in the snappy dialog in mid-film Fred MacMurray (or one of the other commanders) says something to the effect "when the Main Event begins." Although that reference flies past and is quickly lost in a lot of other dialog, it's clear what he means by the boxing phrase "Main Event."
