"Have a look at 'The Times', there's a thrilling article on what's the matter with English cricket."

reply

I'm sorry. Mrs. De Winter has been dead for over a year now."

"It's hard for me to watch American Idol because I have perfect pitch."
-Jenna, 30 Rock

Mrs. de Winter: Tell me, what was Rebecca really like?

Crawley: I suppose, I suppose she was the most beautiful creature I ever saw.

reply

"Hurry up. I want to play some rummy!"

The way that old cow said it was hilarious to me.

reply

Na it's clearly 'retched stuff, give me a chocolate quick!'

Take us the foxes, the little foxes...

reply

"I am Mrs. de Winter now."

reply

FAVELL: I say, marriage with Max is not exactly a bed of roses, is it?

(Joan Fontaine titled her autobiography No Bed of Roses. And someone, I've forgotten who, said cattily that it should be called No Shred of Truth.)

reply

Mrs. Van Hopper: "I remember when I was younger there was a well-known writer who used to dart down the back way whenever he saw me coming. I suppose he was in love with me and wasn't quite sure of himself." Yeah sure, that was it! :P

But the "I am Mrs. de Winter now" is great. Bravo, finally lol.

"I hated her."

My favourite though, "and I should be making violent love to you behind a palm tree."

reply

Agree with the palm tree line. What a smoothy.

reply

I love the line in the courtroom where she almost passes out when Maxim is about to confess. Maxim rushes to her and says, "You haven't had any breakfast- that's what's wrong with you!"

Yeah, buddy... THAT'S what's wrong. *eyeroll* NOTHING else.

reply

Love all that have been quoted. Get a kick out of Gladys Cooper asking the butler how his teeth are and admonishing him to have them all pulled out, claiming they're "nuisances", or something like that.

reply

- How are you, Robert ?
- Quite well, thank, you, madam.

- Still having trouble with your teeth ?
- Unfortunately yes, madam.

-You should have them out, all of them.
Wretched nuisances, teeth.

reply

My favourite: "I'm asking you to marry me, you little fool."

reply

I know this is juvenile but when describing a romantic, ideal proposal:

"And I should be making violent love to you behind a palm tree". :PPPP

I've seen Rebecca with a large crowd at a revival house. When Olivier says that line the audience howled with laughter!

Obviously, at the time, the expression "making love" was not another way of saying "having sex" as it would later become.

"And take that filthy dog out of here!"

reply

"Wretched stuff! Quick, give me a chocolate!"

reply

"No, no, she hasn't won. No matter what happens now, she hasn't won."
