Rebecca a lesbian?

I found several references made by Maxim about his relationship with Rebecca to be rather odd. He mentions Rebecca's relationship to another female friend and how she berates and questions his masculinity. Then there is Mrs. Danvers. They might not have spelled it out in the 40's like they do today but it appears that Rebecca was without a doubt a lesbian who had the misfortune of contracting uteran cancer.I believe the author herself was a lesbian if I'm not mistaken.

She was bisexual. Mrs Danvers is lesbian. Her obsession went beyond just admiration.

there is no mention of her being a lesbian in the book, but a lot of veiled references to her general wickedness and depravity. i suppose she could have been intended to be a lesbian, but it could not be spelled out in the 1930s. the author was married and as far as i know devoted to her husband.

Of COURSE Mrs. Danvers was a lesbian. Rebecca appears to have loved sex -- and she most definitely was the object of Mrs. Danvers' affection. We'll never know whether she was bisexual or pan-sexual, but she was sexually liberated. Just as the screenwriters couldn't have made Maxim a murderer, they couldn't make Rebecca and Mrs. Danvers lesbians.

The next thing I'll read is that Eve Harrington wasn't bisexual.

Rebecca was a slut. Plain and simple. Mrs. Danvers was a surrogate mother for her.

"Rebecca was without a doubt a lesbian"

Sorry, but plenty of doubt.
