In the film, he is the publisher of "Spy Magazine", who sends Jimmy Stewart and Ruth Hussey to Katharine Hepburn's house to do a story on her, while Cary Grant tags alone. In the film he is played by Henry Daniell, who played Professor Moriarty to Basil Rathbone's Sherlock Holmes once. He was also the main villain in Errol Flynn's "The Sea Hawk".

But for anybody who has seen a stage production of "The Philadelphia Story"--does Sidney Kidd appear in the play? I have read a cast list for the stage version, in which the character is not included. And he never appears in the musical remake, "High Society".

I've not read the play,but would like to. I do know that Tracy's brother Junius is a character in the play that got cut from the film, and I would assume that he takes care of the story line about Spy magazine.

i have attended the play at my school and sidney kidd is not there, only mentioned.

The character of Sidney Kidd was supposed to be (loosely) based on Time and Life Magazine publisher, Henry Luce

I'm reading the play - Sidney Kidd does not appear.

"Junius" does not appear either - he's in England. It's brother Alexander ("Sandy") who was left out of the film, allowing the part of Dexter to be expanded a bit (in the play he doesn't enter until the first act is nearly over) - he got some of Sandy's dialog, I think, and the Spy Magazine connection.
