First Ski Movie

I think this is the earliest movie that I can remember seeing prolonged skiing scenes. As a lifelong skier, I'm surprised I haven't seen it mentioned before in any kind of ski publication.

Also lots of skiing in Leni Riefenstahl's "The Holy Mountain", which was made in the 1920s.

TCM recently ran a 1929 Norwegian silent film called Laila (tt0020075)

It's about a girl raised in Finnmark, the northern most region of Norway. There's a lot of skiing and large herds of reindeer. The story line is also nicely done. It is one of my favorite silent films mostly for the depiction of culture I grew up knowing as Lapplanders.

Perhaps the lack of mention is because even skiing magazines don't approve of bigots, racists, or Nazis, whether their name is Drumpf or something else.
