First Road Trip Movie?

I know they were heading to CA for good, and there had been many other films about traveling.

But was this one of the first road trip films, where the characters get into an automobile a drive on the infrastructure and that adds meaning to the film itself? At least the 1st half of the movie.

Are there any earlier films about being on the road as part of the experience? And by road, I'm talking automobiles, not horse-and-buggies or camels, or what have you.

It Happened one night (1934). Also considered the first screwball comedy.

Thanks.

I'll have to check it out.

So we can say G of W was one of the first road trip movies.

AHA! I KNEW that, SOMEWHERE in the back of my mind, I could remember seeing a "road trip" movie that predates both The Grapes of Wrath AND It Happened One Night: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0024358/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_9
