Warren Beatty and Mick Jagger Do Lunch

Roger Friedman Fox 411 3/8/07

"Think you had a good lunch yesterday? The folks at Madeo in West Hollywood have you beat eight ways to Sunday.

That's because Warren Beatty, Mick Jagger and producer Steve Bing dined together with two other male friends at one table, while at another stunning actress, Monica Bellucci, was accepting compliments.

Was Bing celebrating Elizabeth Hurley's Indian wedding? It's unclear. But Beatty and Jagger have at least one thing in common: They are always noted as the main candidates for the roué Carly Simon sings about in "You're So Vain."

Jagger even did backup vocals on what has come to be Simon's trademark hit. But their meeting was probably more about films and possibly Beatty's future projects.

Lately, Jagger has been getting more and more into production, thanks to Victoria Pearman, his partner for the movie "Enigma" and more recently TV's "Knights of Prosperity."

Their venture, Jagged Films, is putting together Diane English's remake of "The Women" with Meg Ryan, Candice Bergen, Sigourney Weaver and several names to be announced.

Is Mrs. Beatty, Annette Bening, to be one of them? She would be a perfect fit, certainly..."

Seems like Roger Friedman is really interested in The Women remake.

"English is getting ready to go into production this July on a remake of "The Women," yet another long-anticipated project. She may have the golden touch at this point to restart movies whose fates were up in the air.

As for "The Women," English was mum about the cast last night at the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s tribute to Diane Keaton. But this column has already reported Meg Ryan, Sigourney Weaver and Candice Bergen's involvement.

I'm told that with new financing in place, English now has the go ahead to reach out to some big names. Included among them are Penelope Cruz and possibly even Gyllenhaal, who would seem like a natural. Lisa Kudrow is also a name in the hat.

Will Keaton be in the film? Is that why English was at her tribute?

"We live around the corner from each other," English told me coyly. Stay tuned.

The 1939 "Women," by the way, had about 20 speaking roles for actresses, and another 20 minor parts. And ... no men.

One last footnote, and it's just speculation: Way back in 1973, Warren Beatty was pretty interested in "Fear of Flying."

I told you recently that he had lunch in Hollywood with Mick Jagger, whose production company is involved in "The Women."

Perhaps Beatty is circling "Flying," while proposing Mrs. Beatty, Annette Bening, for "The Women" (she'd be perfect). Anything's possible."

I'm lucky Horace. I've always been lucky. I'll be lucky again.

I was at a cabaret one night in Hollywood years ago and Warren Beatty and Jack Nicholson came in together and sat next to us. I dont know what they discussed.

"Dakota Fanning, fresh from being raped in "Hounddog," is joining Diane English's remake of "The Women." The 12-year-old is set to play Anjelica Huston's granddaughter, I'm told. Other definites for this long-awaited project: Meg Ryan, Candice Bergen, Debra Messing.

Annette Bening, as I predicted would happen when Warren Beatty lunched with the film's producer Mick Jagger, is also in talks. She's perfect for this movie..."
