Actually, I think the actress is Mary Anderson. If you look Mary Anderson has a credit for The Women while Margaret Early doesn't. I could be wrong but I always thought it was Mary Anderson. By the way Mary Anderson also had a small part that year in Gone With The Wind. She's the girl that tells Scarlett all about Rhett when she first sees him at the 12 Oaks barbeque.

Even though you replied to my post from 2010 I guess you didn't read it. I already posted that the actress in that scene isn't Margaret Early but rather it is Mary Anderson. Who by the way was from Alabama. She was in Gone With The Wind that same year and Selznick must of agreed with you that her accent didn't sound genuine because they actually ended up dubbing her voice in that movie.

Well if you look up Mary Anderson's profile which lists a credit for "The Women" it says she's from Alabama but maybe that is incorrect. It does seem obvious though that she is overplaying the accent.

She got on my last nerve. Thank God she didn't continue to be in the movie, or I wouldn't have made it through half of it.

I thought she was perfect in her part! So was Grandma too!

What does she ask her grandma while she was on the bike? I think the grandma answered 'not without me'

I know what you mean, and I think you're right about the answer. I don't have a DVD copy, but it sounds to me like she says, "may I go to the fights tonight, Grandma?" That doesn't make sense to me, though...I mean, would any women go to boxing matches or any other sort of fight in the late 1930s, let alone upper crust women?

Would someone with a DVD copy (or some other way of viewing the subtitles) please clear this up?

I thought it was bizarre that grandma would be exercising without a BRA! When she's on the bike she's definitely got some giggling going on--and I can't imagine any woman her age wants gravity taking over!

Actually I think I do remember them talking about going to "the fights". And actually, in the 1920s and 1930s, boxing matches were quite popular, especially with the upper crust of society. Kind of a place to see and be seen. Didn't surprise me at all they'd be going to the fights considering when the movie was made.
