Yeah, that would make sense if that is the nomenclature of the time. It would be odd if there were such a treatment to dye one’s eye color, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were such a thing back then considering there were things such as radioactive makeup back in the old days that would sound impossible today.
I believe you are referring the the Radium Girls. They worked at a factory painting watch faces with radium for a glowing effect. They applied the radium to their faces as makeup, not knowing the dangers at the time.
