newly released DVD
Is the newly released DVD "cleaned up"? like sound and picture quality?
shareNope.
shareAw nuts. Stupid Warner Brothers...thanks though

shareTo be fair, it's a slightly better picture. They've used exactly the same print, with the scratches and dirt all present and correct, and the sound is still crap. But they've done something to brighten the picture, so it's less murky.
It's hardly 'restored', but it's slightly less awful.
Hard to believe they'd release this as part of a box set. They were kind enough to leave all the dirt, scratches, and cue marks that did no credit to production. Sad to say the releasing company had no idea of restoration. Hope I live to see the day when the box set of John Wayne films will be truly restored both in video and audio. The technical expertese is there, the will is lacking.
I'd rather spend more for restored John Wayne films than the stuff they are passing off as remastered stuff in box sets with extras consisting of old, crappy previews. Maybe the John Wayne Estate will rescue these classics.
I have the new 2 disk set (ISBN 1-4198-2472-4) and think the picture quality is very good. Great clarity of detail in the black and white, wonderful shadows, etc. I just watched this last night with the commentary (as I'm familiar with the film) and without the film dialogue the quality of the photography really stood out.
