Appreciative

I enjoyed watching Stagecoach on BBC2 this afternoon. there were some classic moments especially towards the end where an epic fight sequence enthrolls you. i fell that i cannot critise this film because it pioneered and set up conventions of the western genre. later western films like the good, the bad and the ugly, Django and Desperado i have enjoyed much more but it was nice to see what influenced these films. Oh and John Wayne's robotic acting was a nice view.

John wayne did a good acting job in this movie. His only really "robotic" scene was when he was reflecting upon his dead brother whilst seated on the floor of the stagecoach. He actully looked close to comatose.
But I think a lot of that sort of acting was left over from the silent film era, which is chock full of blank stares and the concomitant over acting. It's my opinion that some film directors never quite made it out of the silent era. Cecil B. DeMille is an example. As late as 1956 one can still see vistiges of silent film era acting methods in his films.
