Question for those who saw it in the theater
How many times did you go to the bathroom? Being that it's a four hour movie.

shareIf they saw it at 9 they would be 90 now, if they saw it at 19, 100. I don't think they'd be using these boards.
shareActually, before there was netflix and youtube, and before DVDs and VCR tapes, they used to re-release movies into the theater every few years. Movies like this or Citizen Kane would be shown for a few days every few years. It was the only way for people to see them, at that time. So, I saw this in the theater, but it was in the mid-60s. I wish they still did that. Seeing this or Lawrence of Arabia on the big screen is a whole different experience than watching it on a small screen.
shareI guess they did that in the US.
shareIt has been shown in theaters many times since its initial release. I watched it on the big screen once. I do not recall if I took a bathroom break.
shareI saw it in theatre in 2019. Revival houses and film archives are a thing, you know. And of course GWTW has had numerous wider re-releases during it's years as well.
shareAre there still revival houses where you are?
When I was a kid in the 1970s, there were no less than 3 revival house movie theaters downtown, and I was able to see films like "The Wizard of Oz" and the Marx Brothers stuff with a good-natured audience. FYI "Oz" is MUCH more fun when the whole audience hisses every time the WW appears!
Now all those theaters are gone, and there's one movie theater in that busy downtown area where there used to be five, including the revival places. And there aren't any revival theaters in the metropolitan area where I live now, not a single one.
I saw it in the theater. I do not remember. I have trouble remembering what I had for lunch yesterday, let alone how many bathroom breaks I took 55 years ago. However, back then movies often had an intermission. There was a 10 minute break in the middle, where you could go to the bathroom, but popcorn...
shareSaw it on rerelease many years ago but don't remember having to step out to the loo. But there was a long intermission so probably popped out then.
Is it a problem? I'm sixty-five and I can go more than four hours without peeing very easily.
shareBut after four hours you can pee easily. That's good to know but you might still want to see a doctor. :)

In case you didn't know, GWTW has intermission. So when I saw it earlier this year in theatre I went to bathroom once, during that intermission.
shareI was 11 when I saw it for the first time in a theater in 1961 during the Civil War centennial - it certainly was a big deal at that time. I must have gone to the restroom during the intermission, but long ago to remember.
shareI saw this on the 'big screen' in the winter of 1989-90, for it's 50th anniversary. I believe a remastered copy was available 'on tour' to movie theaters back then, and my city was lucky to host it for a weekend.
An old movie palace in my city (which has done touring Broadway musicals since the late 1970s) ran it for a weekend - I remember it was a snowy January weekend. It was incredible seeing this on 'the big screen' (and I mean big - the original screen from the 1920s). I remember there was about a 30 minute intermission, and that's when everyone took a bathroom break. My two friends and I sat in the balcony's front row - great view!
