Loved this movie. Yet I kept being reminded of Gene Hackman's character in Unforgiven. He's like a darker, more sinister (obviously) version of Errol Flynn's sheriff. They even share some of the same methods, like the confiscating of guns.
Point of information. The guns were not being confiscated, they were being "checked". Carrying of firearms within city limits was barred by city ordinance. Firearms could still be kept in a persons home, and carried while out of town. Open carry, not ownership, is what was barred in both films. Also, I see very little to compare between Flynn's role and Hackman's.
