JEZEBEL on TCM 'Essentials' This Weekend 01/06 + 01/07

Just a FYI everyone - JEZEBEL will be shown as part of TCM'S "Essentials" this coming weekend (1/6 & 1/7) - should be interesting to hear Osborne and Haskell discuss it.

It will be followed by WHITE BANNERS, also from 1938, which earned a Best Actress nomination for its star, Fay Bainter, placing her in direct competition with Davis's Julie Marsden in JEZEBEL, for which Bainter was nominated as Best Supporting Actress - she was the Academy's first "double-nominee", nominated in both acting categories for the same year. As we know, she won the Supporting Actress Oscar but lost Best Actress to Davis. This a perfect example of a true "Best Supporting" performance, for Bainter "supports" Davis just as her character of Aunt Belle "supports" Julie. (Another such winning combination is Holly Hunter and Anna Paquin in THE PIANO).

Thanks for the post! Are you an employee of TCM? You seem to know a lot about stuff.

Would that I were an employee of TCM - I believe I'd love it!

No, actually I'm just a guy who's been movie-crazy for 40+ of his 50 years - while the other guys were out getting into trouble, I was watching JEZEBEL and KING KONG, MILDRED PIERCE and THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, Davis, Hepburn, Karloff, Lugosi, Rains...

Dammit, those movies ruined me for life! Small wonder I went to the movies once in 2006!
