I guess you must be talking about "The Waltz". I don't know if this fabulous Max Steiner creation has another "official" name.

You can find the complete song -under that name- into the great CD called "Classic Film Scores for Bette Davis".

Come and meet those dancing feet,
On the avenue I'm taking you to,
Forty-Second Street

Hi, I've been trying to find the name of the song too...but I think it's from a classical prelude that was named "no other love", not to be confused with the Rogers and Hammerstein ditty of the same name...It's been a long time since I've heard that beautiful melody, and I'm searching for it too...let me know, Donna

what was the song that julie was singing on the front porch to the children and adults????

reply

The song which she sings with the children is "Let's Raise a Ruckus tonite" - sometimes with rumpus instead of runkus. Its also in the movie "How the West was Won" - Debbie Reynolds sings it. I have aslo heard it in a lot of other movies and on TV.

Does anybody recognize the other song which the slaves sing at the begining of the scene - the one with the words "Come Back my Suzie Gal'? It sounds familiar. I have not been able to find a reference to it on the web after searching for it for many years and the IMDB music notes for the movie do not mention it. A number of movies which Max Steiner worked on have old American songs and other Folk songs in them - so it may be of that type, rather than one written for the movie.

Try "Swing 'Round My Susie Gal." That's in the lyrics and could also be the title.

I did a little digging and came up with a folk song called "Goodbye, My Susie Gal." That may be it.
