Is this film set in Louisiana ? What was the name of the plantation and where was it located.

The plantation was called "Halcyon". It was located somewhere north of New Orleans (close enough to hear the cannon fire).

Were there plantations that close to New Orleans ? Is this even realistic ?

Yes, there were swampy plantations around New Orleans.

Yes. But they've all been demolished by now and turned into suburbs.

Why should I care? It wasn't me who got killed.
