It's amazing how much modern comedy owes to vaudville.
Well since no one remember vaudeville, I'm sure audiences think its all fresh and new.
Frank Nugent, then the film critic for the New York Times (and later a distinguished screen writer) commented in his review of BUB (which he hated btw), that the film was full of old movie cliches. These cliches, of course, derived from vaudeville bits that the movie uses.
