Does the 'gay'reference really bother you?

I actually found that part funny, but I noticed another thread that people didn't like it at all. What about you?

Joey-Look at me, I'm Chandler. Could I BE wearing anymore clothes?

reply

If by 'gay' you mean homosexual, there is none.

Technically, they are dead.

Not that I agree, but maybe you should have phrased it, "___,_____,and ____ were heterosexual.
BTW, I think that 1st Brando you named was Bi.

What difference does it make who is straight and who is gay? Does anyone really care anymore?

Ditto!

I don't understand why so many people is really concerned about the sexual preferences of movie stars, especially of those who have died so long ago.

Live and let die.

The problem is that for all of us classic movie fans, these stars really never die. Many were dead before we were even born. We fall in love with them from movies made 50, 60, 75 years ago. Whether they were gay, straight or bi, they were what they were long before we ever came along. I guess it's the same reason some people care about whether Tom Cruise is gay. They'll most likely never meet him, and certainly won't be on his radar (some would argue gaydar) as a love interest, so what does it matter? I suppose it matters because humans are curious and we have incredible imaginations. Why do people still care whether Sweden's Queen Christina was a lesbian, or whether Louis XVI was gay? Hell, there's still an argument among historians about whether Abraham Lincoln was gay just because he slept with other men -- and I do mean SLEPT. Period. Totally straight men DID sleep together in those days because of the lack of beds. That's a historical fact. But, I digress. The point is, unless these people ever came out (or those still living come out) and tell us, no one will ever really know for sure, so what difference does it make? Meanhile, I'll keep my fantasies about Cary Grant, and you keep yours!

True.

Right, the term "Gay" contains several meanings or senses of the word, and some of those did not exist in 1938, and since then, it has become both a compliment and an insult, usually alternating back and forth depending upon who's using it, how it's used, and whom it's directed upon.

So, if it's not P/C today, then it was P/C in those days because it meant flowery, and it alternates between non-P/C and P/C ever since, but in the future it may be an insult to call anyone Gay because who knows what will be P/C then, but on the other hand it may be a compliment because who knows what will be P/C even tomorrow.

Problems like these keep flipping and changing every day.

No, it's what I expect from homosexual 'activists': it's a stick in the eye to the rest of us and they get to feel less marginalized. And, perhaps they feel IMDB is their turf; I wouldn't blame them.
