Was There A Child's Illustrated Book Based On This Movie?

The first time I saw it, I felt a sense of dejavu. I knew I'd seen the scene of Robin & Little John beating each other with staffs, and the scene of Friar Tuck carrying Robin on his back, and the splitting of the arrow during the archery contest.

Ward Lock published the illustrated version book of the film. Actually there were two editions one with 16 colour and 100 B&W illustrations and one with 8 colour and 50 B&W. The book was adapted from the original screenplay so it starts with a jousting scene that never made it onto film.

The film itself is largely based on the Howard Pyle's Merry Adventures of Robin Hood, featuring Pyle's own illustrations of the legends.

Fortunately, Ah keep mah feathers numbered for just such an emergency!

I had the same thought when I watched the movie, I remember the book my father used to read it to me. It had stills from the movie with super colour saturated photos, I wish I still had it.

I once had a child's illustrated book based on the Richard Greene "Robin Hood" television series of the 1950s. It had colour photographs from the series.
