The Queen's voice...

This board is obviously filled with people who grew up watching these classic Disney movies and now see them through a new set of (older) eyes, myself included. One thing that strikes me watching "Snow White" as an adult is how fantastic the Queen's voice is.

Lucille La Verne did a terrific job. From the cold, regal tone of the Queen to the scratchy voiced old crone, every line was delivered perfectly. She sounds aloof, menacing, evil, crazy... not to mention her evil cackle is, well, the evil cackle to end all evil cackles haha!

La Verne certainly did a masterful job voicing-over the Queen!

I mean, virtually every other line the Queen says is quotable haha!

"A lash for her. Reveal her name!"
"Silence! You know the penalty if you fail..."
"The heart of a pig?! Then I've been tricked!"
"My voice! My voice... hahahaha!"
"Thirsty? Have a drink!"

I love how psycho she sounds right before her death, when the dwarves chase her up the cliffs and she tries to push the boulder on them, especially.

"I'll get ya! I'll crush your bones!"

The script certainly did give the Queen some memorable lines to so haughtily deliver!

I hadn't thought about it before, but her transformation into a crone unleashed her inner madness, which she restrained in the form of the beauteous and regal monarch.

Thanks for the additional perspective, sakura-droplet!

I agree and The Evil Queen is my personal favorite Disney villain.

She certainly did, johnnyb94109! The transformation from the beautiful but cold, rigid, regimented queen to the old witch was absolutely seamless. It was incredibly smooth.

reply

Agreed she had an incredible voice.

It is my business to protect your majesty.... against all things.

I didn't even realize the queen/crone had the same voice actress until recently. When I was little, I didn't catch the similarities between the two.

I like the way that she aged her voice after she had turn into the hag. BTW I think that figure in her mirror looks like and lisps like Boris Karloff.

SHe was sucessfully scary! evil laugh

I couldn't help coming back on here after seeing 'Warlock Moon' (1973). At some points in her speech Edna MacAfee's voice reminded me so much of the Evil Queen's hag voice.

her voice is amazing!

I'm actually used to seeing La Verne in hag roles in silent films like ORPHANS OF THE STORM, so hearing her was an experience.
