I agree with the other posts. I am not a cryer by any means, but the end of this film gets me every time. The acting by Freddie, Spencer and Barrymore during Manual's death is flawless. They really make you think he is dying. And then the scenes with his father bonding with him while coping with his friends death are so wonderful. I am person who steers away from movies where a character I love, dies, but this film has too many wonderful things going for it. I don't know if there is another character I ever enjoyed more than Manual. Spencer Tracy totally derserved that Oscar he won for this role. I am also a big believer in putting Godliness/faith into films. It seems that most films today are anything but Godly. The Peter and the fish story was wonderful. Adding the story about him meeting up with his father made it ok for him to die, even though you did not want him to die. We all knew he would be in heaven with his father. Lastly I loved the final scene where Freddie and his father are in the car talking and they pop up an image of Spencer on the screen. What a wonderful end to a film.
