Just saw it last night, and wasn't expecting much, but
. . . it was a winner! The two of them had great chemistry together. I haven't seen My Favorite Wife in a good 20 years or so, but I hear it's on this weekend, so I'll be recording it just to see them together again.
A couple of meta-observations: first, I know Cary Grant's work more from his later years, when he was in his 50s and even 60s, and although it's true he looks just about exactly the same - the man doesn't age! - it always bugged me that he'd always be bagging the hot and very much younger chicks. Imagine my surprise to come to IMDb and learn that Irene Dunne was 6 years older than he was! Ha ha, turnabout is fair play!
The other observation is that I didn't think Irene Dunne was all that attractive. She has kind of a long face, and in the beginning of the movie, she was wearing those dresses that accentuated the fact that she was flat. "Lookie here - I have no breasts!" Sorry, that's crude and I know it, but the wau those dresses were cut to show off her flat chest was laughable.
However, by the end of the movie, when she really got into character, with the whole Lola bit, I didn't care much more about her looks. And when she was in bed at the end looking at that door, and at Cary Grant coming through it, she looked pretty damned sexy. So there.
I asked the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.
