"Dinner at Eight" (1933) was a lot more sophisticated.

What movie did you watch? and what do you mean by "naive"? Have you ever seen a movie called The Breakfast Club? that film was either naive, or disingenuous, if we are supposed to believe for a moment that [SPOILER ALERT] either of those couples lasted longer than a week.
