I just love the expressions on Grant's and Dunne's faces after the musical number turns from classy to trashy.

"The movie was good, but not great."

I beg to differ with this post. This movie is the greatest screwball comedy ever made hands down. Nowhere will you find performances as nuanced, funny, sophsitcated and true as those given by Irene Dunne and Cary Grant.

I also think that The Awful Truth is the very best of the screwball comedies. Everyone talks about Bringing Up Baby but I didn't find it nearly as engaging as TAT.
God save Donald Duck, vaudeville and variety

amusing that that scene was so embarrassing for Grant. By today's standards, the dress blowing is very decorous. Standards have really changed.

and When Lucy talks about how it was easier for her to change her name, than for the rest of the family to change theirs. It gets me every time!

RE Orchid Dalloway, the previous poster, that is my favorite line of the movie too, that is just priceless comedy, i cant believe ive never heard someone say a line like that b4.... it was 70 years ago and im 30... and ive never heard anyone say that line b4, i guess it was easier to change her name,than the rest of her family to change theirs LOL hahahahhahahh ahahhahahhhahhh
glad to see someone else appreciates that line too, Irene Dunne was GENIOUS in the movie....
