Just saw it for the first time

I'm a pretty big Irene Dunne fan - have several of her movies on video. I finally got to see "Theodora Goes Wild" on TCM last night. It met all of my expectations. It was with this movie that she made the transformation to comedienne. In the last half of the movie, when she returned to New York and went "wild", all of the sudden she had made the leap to the incredible level of comedy that she managed for a whole movie the next year as Lucy Warriner in "The Awful Truth".

I also loved the supporting cast. All of those wonderful Columbia bit players. The small town scenes made me want to go and pop in my DVD of Mr. Deeds afterwards.

I only hated one thing - the incredibly loud and annoying whistling.

We watched it for the first time on TCM yesterday too.

Both my husband and I LOVED the movie! :)

And, that DOG! :D
He was adorable!!
(another great dog actor who got no credit...one of my pet peeves)
(no pun intended, although it WAS a good pun) ;)

Anyone know who that dog was?

He was right up there with Asta, Lassie and Terry (Toto)!

Be well...

Yes me too!!!! And....I am not a big Irene Dunne fan, but think this is more because the movies I have see her in are not 'my type'....hard to explain perhaps. She was great in this, and IMO it was a great movie....so I might become a big fan after all (I'm sure she is great in the others as well....)

thank goodness for TCM because otherwise this film would be nearly forgotten. and that would have been a crime. this is one of the funniest and funnest movies i have ever seen, on a par with the awful truth.
and yeah jake the dog was so cute :)

I don't know what I would do without it....

I totally agree!! TCM has shown me SOOO many movies i'd never get to see because they are not available. I just wish they'd stick with the oldies and not play the newer films from the late 70's and early 80's because I think they don't fit with what I consider a TCM movie, ya know? I dunno maybe it's just me, but i think they should just show silents through 60's, EARLY 70's at the latest. I just love the B&Ws too much! :)

Michael Grant was being deliberately annoying in a number of ways. He seems to have really succeeded with his whistling. For easy markup in Firefox & Opera, see http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/42255

"Theodora" was a cute, fun movie and Irene Dunne, heretofore known mainly for melodramas, proved what a delightful comedienne she could be. I think she was quite a uniquely dignified, yet warm actress, always a lady.
