I read the play over the weekend and was very impressed how different is the movie?
The movie follows the play very closely and most of the dialogue is intact. However, there are some deletions - notably, the lineworkers at the beginning speak at length about the benefits of a communist ideology - this section has (not surprisingly) been stricken from the film. The play is also quite a bit more racy than the film as I remember.
I think you will be impressed and moved by the film as it's every bit as good as the text which I have read myself more than once. I am trying to get the play produced locally in fact for next season. This is easily one of my favorites from that era.

The play will go up in January 2007 and I'm extremely excited about doing it.
