1) Why is Alan Squier trapsing all over the country with an insurance policy on his life in his knapsack?

2) So they "got" Duke Mantee. What happened to the hostages he was using for a human shield?

1) Probably waiting for someone he liked good enough to sign it over to before he went byebye.

2) No idea.

1) - No amount of romanticism can beat an insurance agent out of someone's life.

2) Well it's not like anyone cared about them from the beginning, the sheriffs had absolutely no qualms opening wild fire upon a house full of hostages.
