Bogie redid his role in a 1955 TV Remake!

It's available on YouTube. Search for it.

It had Henry Fonda as Alan, Lauren Bacall as Gabbie, and Bogie reprising his role as Duke!!!!

Bogie is obviously 25 years older, but still fits the role perfectly. Fonda and Bacall play their parts in a more "modern" way.

I like the original movie version better, but the TV drama was really cool to see.

CHECK IT OUT.

Duke Mantee established Bogart's tough guy image first he played the role on stage in 1935 on film in 1936 on radio in 1940 & on TV. By 1955 Bogart returned to gangster roles showing that he can still be the bad guy. After this he did "The Desperate Hours" as escaped convict Glenn Griffin which was Duke Mantee all over again.

I have a copy of the TV version, which was obviously cut down to fit a time slot. The program was called "Producers' Showcase." Actually, the first scene was on film because we see Fonda hitchhiking on what is obviously a real stretch of highway in a "real" desolate part of the country. When he sees the diner, the show becomes "live." Bogart plays Mantee as even more burned out and desperate; but the role of Slim the black henchman, is cut so severely the character barely registers.

May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?
