shareI think you're referring to "Smile," a song written by Chaplin himself. Words were later added: "Smile/though your heart is breaking..."
In fact, the song has become, in the years since the movie came out, a famous "standard"--it has, for example, been used as the theme music for the Jerry Lewis Telethon.
