Just saw this for the second time on TCM today which confirmed my first suspicion. I noticed that Marlene's accent was practically absent in this film. So much so that it makes me wonder if her voice was dubbed over. Or perhaps Selznick insisted she tone it down for this role. Anyone else notice this?

Absolutely ! Her voice sounded so young and sweet and no accent. Alan Marshall sounded as if he had been at the helium. I was convinced that there was something wrong with the sound until Charles Boyer spoke. I suppose it is still possible that she was dubbed and not him. Very strange.
"I say,open this door at once! We're British !"
Marlene's breathy little-girl voice was as silly as her wardrobe was impractical.
shareOne way or another her voice was dubbed over. There is a huge disconnect between what is being spoken and lip movements. It could have been her herself that did it in a recording studio or a voice actress.
