Lorre learning English?

I noticed Lorre's voice and delivery sound very stilted, in fact reminding me of a Christopher Walken like delivery. I was wondering as this was Lorre's first Hollywood film, if it might be because he was learning English and perhaps learned some of it phonetically. (Like Lugosi would have.)Any ideas.

I am not sure about his english, but I do know its Lorres first movie in the States. He was awsome...

Crime and Punishment is also a great movie.
