Yes!!! This one was one of the greatest action/adventure films I have ever seen. It is a masterpiece in every which way possible. Thrilling, exciting, sexy, harrowing, these are all understatements. The first Tarzan is great, this is PERFECT! There is so much action and adventure that can you fill up four movies! It's extremely graphic, bloody and oh my god, the nudity! They show Maureen O'Sullivan in the full nude underwater!!!!!!!! (it better not be a double, and if it was, don't let me know)
I agree completely. It is truly an amazing movie. The apes attacking the natives in the trees. The elephants attacking the lions! I could go on and on about this magnificent adventure movie.
It was a very good film. I rank this one at #2, just behind Tarzan's New York Adventure.
A memorable moment occurs when...
Cheeta's mother is killed saving Jane. I think the director was trying to make a connection between Cheeta's loss, and Jane's loss of her father. It makes for an Old Yeller moment.
You get my vote. Not only is it the ultimate romantic adventure, it also has some of the greatest characters ever, and for my money, the most three dimensional villain ever in film.
"Martin my friend Arlington" was so credible. He is a rogue first, but also has love in him, and camaraderie for his buddy.
Yet he also is ruthless. He differentiates himself from Neil Hamilton's likable guide when he murders an employee. Shocking today, as it should be. Martin certainly had to know if the employee was a relative of the chief or if he was a tribal felon on parole. He surely wouldn't take this chance with a chief's nephew.
That's between the lines. On the surface, he shows his villainy often, but just as often shows a sensitive side. He truly wants to save Jane in the end, or at least wants to be the kind of man who would save her.
The best duo of white hunter villains in film, Martin and the more moderate Harry. I think this is what really makes the film a classic.
But the sexiest Jane ever, along with her sexy double, makes this a male fantasy, too. There is a lot of icing on this cake, and it's all a chef's delight.
I guess you must be part of the cult that surrounds this movie, as much as I enjoyed this movie and there are great things in it, I doubt I'd go out of my way to watch it again. It was very daring for the time but looks pretty tame stuff now. Still, the first time you watch it, it's a lot of fun in a boys-own adventure. If they re-made it today it would not be half as much fun, for a start Tarzan would probably be black! Not that this is a bad thing but Tarzan was never PC to start with. Glad you enjoy it and hope it still retains it's cult status nearly 80 years on.
It is probably the single best TARZAN movie ever made. Let's not oversell it though, it's not that bloody. The nudity was a nice surprise. And yes, that was a double. Not Maureen O'Sullivan.
