Curious about Edwin Phillips. When I saw this film recently I kept thinking he was the young Eddie Albert. Phillips seemed like a fairly competent character actor, but IMDB lists only two other widely separated credits for him in a rather long life. What's his story? Why didn't he appear in more films?

shareI'd like to know that too. A combination of juvenile player good looks and splendid acting should have guaranteed him a long stay in Hollywood. In fact he almost looked like a young Frank McHugh (and I'm sure the Warners talent scouts thought the same). I could only find three Broadway credits of his: Damn the Tears (1927), a revival of Henry V (1928), and The Unconquered (1940). Not even the New York Times (at least in its web archives) carry any obituary or paid death notice. Just a guess--maybe he also worked in radio or in summer stock, or writing, or directing, or even as an acting coach?
