It's showing on TCM early Sunday morning, March 1, 2015.
I'm so excited!
I've never seen this one. It seems like an egregious blind spot in my movie viewing because I love 1930s musicals, like 42nd Street, Shall We Dance, Broadway Melody, Follow the Fleet and even Dancing Lady, with Joan Crawford. As much as I love Public Enemy and White Heat, my favorite Jimmy Cagney movie is Footlight Parade.
The 1930s is my favorite decade for the movies. Sometimes, I feel like I've seen every worthwhile movie from that decade, but then I'll come across something well-known, like Fury, or something obscure, like Condemned Women with Sally Eilers and Anne Shirley, and I'm happy to realize that there are a lot more 1930s films to see!
Wow, 1933 was a good year! In addition to Gold Diggers of 1933, we got Duck Soup, King Kong, 42nd Street, Queen Christina, Dinner at Eight, Baby Face, Footlight Parade, The Invisible Man, Mystery of the Wax Museum, Sons of the Desert and a bunch more.
I think 1933 is very competitive with 1939 for best year for movies ever.
Janet! Donkeys!
