Same Robe Different Movie

In Fashions of 1934 the robe that the character Glenda wears in the scene when they are waiting to get the shipment of couture outfits in to photograph them for copying is also worn by Joan Blondell's character Carol in this movie. The robe has openings on the top of each arm and the openings and rest of the robe edges are edged with a ruffle. It's a light color and presumably the ruffles are white. This isn't the firt time that I've recognized the reuse a dress or robe from two different movies from the 30s.

Watch "Footlight Parade"(1933) and then "Bullets or Ballots"(1936). The sparkling bathing suits worn in the "By A Waterfall" number show up on chorus girls in a nightclub in the latter picture. Pretty good, recycling 3-year-old wardrobe. Jack Warner was very cost-conscious, often walking around the sets during lunch hour turning off lights.

When Titanic was filmed it destroyed almost all of the costumes in Hollywood that were appropriate to the period. It makes sense that many costumes can be reused, unless they are 'statement costumes', such as Scarlett's picnic dress or Liza Doolittle's racing dress.

Also, in the late 80s, early 90s General Hospital (and I guess many ABC soaps) had negligee & peignoir sets from Victoria's Secret (back when they were more romantic, less trampy) that retailed upwards of $200. For a five year period about every new bride on GH wore the same set. Some of the grooms sported the silk boxers and robe set from VS also.
