The premise irritates me a bit
Although I love Stanwyck in anything, I was annoyed by her character's attitude towards her son's employment. She is so focused on him being an artist, like Roelf, and I didn't like the way she compared him to Roelf. Selina feels being an architect is somehow a noble profession, more artistic I guess. I think as long as your son is working a good job that is not illegal or unethical, why is it wrong for him to choose something that is more lucrative? A job is a way to provide for yourself and your family, and you would think she would understand that after all her years of struggle to put food on the table.
