Ernest Thesiger as the hauntingly Horace Femm is character acting at its finest. The rainy setting, the dark and eerie tone, the humorous and memorable lines, it's a grand introduction to classic horror. I also recommend The Black Cat (1934) with Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi if you haven't seen it.
