Turner Movie Classics, they are having a vote to decide what classic movies to make into DVD's by 2005 and I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932) is one of the choices. Go to the website and vote. I voted for it because I think it is a great film and a story that needs to be told about the history of this country. Paul Muni is incredible in this role. The director, Mervyn LeRoy, does an outstanding job in filming this autobiography of man who escapes from a chain gang.

Don't wish to sound stupid by that, but a few days ago I went to the TCM site with this express purpose and didn't find anything. It's definitely my first choice for that contest too. Muni is so cool -- like a cross between James Dean and Colin Farrell. I was so engrossed upon my first viewing of it on TCM, I risked offending friends by staying home when I'd already accepted their invite to the movies (About Schmidt, I think). "Jack's OK," I thought, "but this is better."

I should have put it on my original post because they are only going to pick so many, (I can't remember the # right now), films after the voting is done. I really want this film to be on DVD so just go to:

http://www.turnerclassicmovies.com/ and then hit VOTE>DVD Decision 2004. I just tried it and it worked so....GOOD LUCK!!!

It'll be released on DVD on May 10, 2005, available on its own or as part of WB's "Controversial Classics Collection" (a box set of movies that deal with social and political issues). The extras haven't been announced yet but the USA Today article, which announced the release of the set, said that all the films would have either a commentary or a new featurette.
